Science and Engineering
Our aim is to develop children’s natural curiosity. We do this by encouraging them to ask questions, carry out investigations and use what they discover to make sense of the world around them.
We are very lucky here at Chandlings to have extensive grounds with a variety of habitats to study. We also have a safe pond dipping pontoon on the lake. We have two specially equipped Science labs for practical work when the children move up to the Prep department.
All Pre-Prep children are taught Science and Engineering in their classrooms by their class teacher.
The curriculum is split into half-termly topics including an engineering project such as designing and building a moon buggy.
Each year group ’adopt a tree’ in the School grounds which the children visit throughout the year. The aim of this initiative is for the children to become more familiar with their local environment and the many varieties of trees within our beautiful grounds. It will also provide them with more outdoor learning opportunities where they can learn about the flora and fauna found at Chandlings.
