Drama

Every class, from Nursery to Year 2, has a weekly Drama lesson. These lessons provide a balance between drama for learning and for performance. Group activity is central to the whole class drama experience, and therefore the lessons include group decision-making, problem-solving, devising, improvisation and collaborative creativity.

Work starts with storytelling and understanding that the most significant aspect of drama in schools is the ability of young people to see the world from someone else’s point of view, and maybe empathise with and better understand others and themselves.

As the children move into Year 1, Drama Skills are also taught within the storytelling framework so that the children acquire the confidence and expertise needed to perform in front of an audience. This is continued as the children move into the Prep Department.
